Steven Tyler's country-leaning solo debut hit shelves July 15th, so the Aerosmith frontman appeared on TODAY this morning to discuss the new project.

Tyler suggested that he has a deeply rooted connection with country music – as a child, he used to listen to a country radio station that broadcast from Fort Wayne, IN. One song in particular caught his ears: Johnny Horton's "All For The Love Of A Girl." "It was the first time I got those feelings inside for music… in a sexual way, in a life-giving way," Tyler told Matt Lauer. "And then I heard the Everly Brothers and their harmonies."

Decades later, after making appearances at country awards shows, the Tyler said he "fell in love" with Nashville, so he moved there. His new album includes contributions from Nashville stalwarts like Rhett Akins, Hillary Lindsay, and Dan Huff.

"I'm a chance-taker," Tyler adds. Following the interview, he performed with the assistance of a massive band that included a fiddler and a horn section. Watch below.
